The Dialyzer

Sometimes referred to as an artificial kidney, a dialyzer is a large canister which contains thousands of fibers through that allow for blood passage. A dialysis solution, also known as dialysate, acts as a cleansing solution and is pumped around the fibers. The fibers allow for waste and other fluids to pass from the blood and into the dialysate so these products can be be carried out of the body. The dialysate is a chemical formula that behaves similar to a sponge during its waste removal process. The exact formula of dialysate, per dialysis patient, is determined by a physician and is based on factors that include, but are not limited to: how the patient reacts to treatment and results of blood tests.
